Review: Shimano Deore 2010 Gruppo

Shimano made 2010 an exciting year for Deore fanatics with the latest improvements to its entry level mountain bike group set. Overall, attributes from higher end components are applied with relatively minimal cost variance. Such improvements ranges from Shadow derailleur design, disk brake bleed system, and overall aesthetics which makes it a viable alternative to the budget conscious riders.

The rear derailleur has been redesigned with shadow technology for a more low profile design which will help lessen risk against smashing. Improvements have been made in the spring tension to make shifting more crisp. Weighing at 28 grams less, a true bang for the buck component for under $50.00.

Bleeding has been a common concern for previous owners of Deore brakes. Shimano did a fair job of coming up with an improved one way oil routing system that minimizes air build up when bleeding. Ergonomic changes were also introduce including a hinged open clamp fitting for quick installation and removal, SLX and XT driven free tool lever adjust, and one or two- finger braking lever design.

Shifters now feature a 9 speed rapidfire with two-way shifting. And as mentioned, internals have been redesigned to effect a more crisp shifting.

Chain sets has incorporated Shimano's Hyperdrive system for improved performance at lesser weight thanks to its new alloy outer ring.

All in all, trickle down high end technology significantly improved the Deore 2010 Groupset. Not too bad at all for entry level components. Will leave it still for bikers to decide.
